Administration Officer - Community Education - Deaf Connect

Deaf Connect provides a range of high quality accredited and non-accredited courses to almost 1000 students each year. Deaf Connect is looking for an Administration Officer, Community Education, responsible for undertaking administration tasks. This administrative support is integral to providing the best service for students through the delivery of non-accredited Auslan and Deaf Awareness Training classes. At the direction of the Team Lead, Community Education this role will give priority will be in the provision of administration support and information for these courses in a timely manner.

Current opportunity:

Your role will include:

  • Oversee the administration of Community Auslan Classes, One-Off Auslan Classes, Sign Online, DAT Online and Deaf Awareness Training programs including advertising courses, setting up classes on the website and controlling opening and closing of classes, booking venues, accepting enrolments, booking interpreters as required, distributing certificates and collating completed evaluation forms
  • Book venues and interpreters as required
  • Attendance at events such Auslan Only Weekend and other marketing events
  • Maintain adequate student records
  • To provide administration and clerical support including word processing, data entry, invoicing, payments and certificates as required
  • To maintain stock levels and prepare orders for the Community Education, Team Leader approval on course books and coordinate / monitor the postage of materials to teachers / tutors in order to ensure they are ready for the course delivery
  • Prepare statistical information for the Community Education, Team Leader for reporting purposes
  • Answer telephone and email enquiries, providing accurate and relevant information and / or make appropriate referral
  • Other related administration tasks as required at the discretion of the Community Education Team Leader
  • Ensure continuous improvement and quality of Auslan Community Classes, One-Off Auslan Classes and Deaf Awareness Training programs
  • Provide quotes for private sign language courses and organise all aspects of the delivery of such

About You

To succeed in this role, you’ll have:


  • Knowledge of the Deaf community, language and culture
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative tasks
  • Skills with Microsoft Applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Sound organisational and time management skills
  • Positive and flexible attitude
  • Auslan skills


  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of Windows operating systems, file structures, file formats, and protocols.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work within a team-oriented environment.
