General Manager - Education - Deaf Connect

About the Role

Deaf Connect is the largest whole-of-life service provider for Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing Australians. Being the market leader, we have a long history in providing Australian Sign Language Courses. (Auslan).

Our team of experienced teachers deliver a range of courses from community classes, to accredited training, courses for Deaf and hard of hearing people, Deaf Awareness Training and Family classes for people who want to learn Auslan for their Deaf or hard of hearing children.

We are currently seeking a General Manager Education to oversee this function, focussing on enhancing the operational position of the Accredited training and to grow the non- accredited study programs. Ensuring service quality and maintaining compliance at the highest level for the benefit of our Clients/ Customers/ Students/ Participants and Community.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role is responsible for:

  • Overseeing, directing, and developing educational programs, courses and workshops in line with the organisations strategic plan
  • Targeting both the Deaf and hard of hearing community and the education of the wider community’s awareness of deafness and communication strategies

This role has a strong focus on growth and development of new educational services.

We are seeking an innovative people leader who is passionate about growing our educational services whilst leading a team and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse and talented individuals.

  • Demonstrated highly developed team leadership and management skills, including the ability to manage change and generate a culture of continuous improvement 
  • Business acumen and strategic management expertise applied in an education setting 
  • Formal qualifications in education/training or a related discipline 
  • Interest in the Deaf community, language and culture
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, including proven ability in the effective negotiation, liaison, consultation and engagement of key stakeholders and partnerships  

You should also let us know if you have these other great skills: 

  • Experience or knowledge in the delivery of educational material
  • Demonstrated experience in growth outcomes in an equivalent business
  • Auslan skills or willingness to learn
