Manager – Policy and Government Relations - Deaf Connect

About the Role

Joining Deaf Connect’s Impact team, you will work closely with the Chief Impact Officer (CIO) to create and deliver meaningful social impact on the Australian Deaf and hard of hearing community.

As a key member of the Impact leadership team, you will work collaboratively across the organisation, sector, industry and government to advance Deaf Connect’s advocacy agenda, policy positions and research.

Under the direction of the CIO and in alignment with Deaf Connect’s strategic plan, the role will develop and implement a government engagement strategy which enhances and supports Deaf Connects advocacy and impact agenda. You will develop position papers and submissions reflecting Deaf Connect’s position on policy issues and lead the coordination of Deaf Connect’s research agenda.

About You

We are seeking expressions of interest from those that have a passion and strong understanding of advocacy, policy and government engagement.  Please also let us know in your application if you have experience/knowledge of the following:

  • Experience in advocacy, policy and/or research in the Deaf and/or disability sector
  • Demonstrated experience in researching, developing and communicating policy to government and/or relevant stakeholders
  • Success in building strategic partnerships and relationships with government, political and relevant sector organisations and stakeholders
  • Ability to liaise, influence and negotiate with all levels of government and sector organisations
  • Demonstrated experience in writing advocacy and position papers
  • In depth understanding of the contemporary issues and challenges facing Deaf and hard of hearing Australians and their families
  • Fluency in Auslan
  • Tertiary qualifications in research, public policy or equivalent
