These courses are designed for Deaf and hard of hearing adults aged 15 or over.

You may enrol in as many courses as you like, but make sure to secure your place quickly as space is limited.

Term 2, 2024 – Program 1

Duration: five (5) weeks from 31 May to 28 June 2024.

When: Every Friday from 9am – 12pm.

Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta (Level 4, 69 Phillip St, Parramatta, NSW, 2150)

 

Term 3, 2024 – Program 2

Duration: seven (7) weeks from 9 August to 20 September 2024.

When: Every Friday from 9am – 12pm.

Term 4, 2024 – Program 3

Duration: seven (7) weeks from 25 October to 6 December 2024.

When: Every Friday from 9am – 12pm.

In each Program and each session, you will learn about new art techniques and tools.

 

Term 2, 2024 – Program 1

Drawing Wild Draw from your heart with charcoal, pastel, ink, and graphite. There will be warm-up exercises to allow you to explore your drawing styles.
Imprinting Decorative pieces and Trinket (Part 1) Create unique designs by using pressed mixed materials, flowers, buttons, shells into clay. In this pottery class, no kiln is needed!
Illustrated Trinket Clay (Part 2) As the clay dries by then, you will add beautiful touches with gouache paint and varnish for the final touch.
Gel Plate Printing Experiment with mark-making. Prints can be made using a variety of materials, including stencils and objects, and experimenting. The possibilities are endless.
Lego Printing You can make prints with lots of things—even LEGOs! Discover the fun of printing with Lego blocks, turning into playful art on paper.

 

Term 3, 2024 – Program 2

Gouache Painting Paint still life scenes with gouache, blending opacity and watercolour-like qualities for captivating artwork.
Portraits with Ink, Colour, and Collage Create unique portraits using a mix of ink, colour, and collage techniques to express your individuality.
Decoration Clay Wall (Air Dry) Create clay masks for your walls, adding depth and matching your personality style.
Portraits Acrylic Painting Express yourself boldly with acrylics as you paint, mastering different techniques to bring your subject to life.
Gel Printing Experiment with mark-making. Prints can be made using a variety of materials, including stencils and objects, and experimenting. The possibilities are endless.
Creative Zine Printmaking Dive into the world of zine-making, combining old drawings, magazines, and new prints to create your own unique art mini magazine.

 

Term 4, 2024 – Program 3

Zine Making Let your imagination run wild as you create zines from reused materials, old drawings, paints, experimenting with different looks and content.
Embroidery You will create your own ideas and transform them into basic sewing to bring them alive.
Fabulous Florals Painting Looking at flower arrangements, you’ll use that beauty in your painting on canvas, learning about light and shadows.
Expressive Portraits with Ink, Colour, and Collage You will have more play—experiment with tools, play, refine your skills and techniques.
Blue and White Watercolour, Still Life You will learn colours that have a story, you will learn to use different shades of blue and white, creating serene artwork.
Visual Storytelling Gouache Painting with Collage Tell your story through art with gouache painting and collage techniques, creating visually stunning narratives on paper.
Art Journaling Reflect on your artistic journey and explore mixed media techniques as you fill your journal with creativity and inspiration.

 

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government.

This course is fee-free for eligible people who meet the Entry Requirements.

Funding Eligibility Evidence

In order for DC to assess your funding eligibility, you will need to provide some evidence along with your Enrolment Form.

Proof of citizenship in the form of one of the following:

  • Australian or New Zealand Birth Certificate
  • Australian or New Zealand Passport
  • Green Medicare card
  • Naturalisation Certificate
  • Humanitarian VISA
  • Certificate of Evidence of Resident Status (Permanent Resident)

 

Proof of residency or employment in the form of one of the following:

  • Current driver’s license
  • Health Care card or Pension card
  • Proof of Age card
  • Letter or email form employer to show the street address where you are working
  • Utilities account relating to your address within the last 3 months of rental document

 

Proof of disability in the form of one of the following:

  • Disability Support Pension card
  • Letter form a medical practitioner
  • Letter from a health professional
  • Letter from a government agency
  • Letter from a school counsellor

Note: This course is NOT nationally recognised and does NOT lead to the issuance of an AQF [Australian Qualifications Framework] certification documentation.
