What is it?

Embarking on an adventure | The Gallaudet University Immersion Program (GUIP) is a unique initiative designed for Australian Deaf individuals eager to fully immerse themselves in the educational and cultural experiences at Gallaudet University.  

Taking place in April 2024, participants embarked on a three-week program that will involve engaging events, classroom observations, and exploration of the vibrant Deaf ecosystem in Washington D.C., USA.

The participants travelled to and arrived safely at Gallaudet University.

This past week they have been busy immersing themselves into campus life and exploring the facilities.

What did the Gallaudet University Immersion Program participants get up to?

They met the Gallaudet Bison mascot, attended the Academic Bowl, Education Fair and much more! 

They also got to explore Washington D.C. and visit a Deaf business, Streetcar 82.

Our Gallaudet University Immersion Program participants have completed their trip and have arrived back home!

Watch on to go on a tour around the Gallaudet University campus and learn about the ‘Coffin Door’ custom. Our participants also gave a presentation about Australian culture and participated in some classes.
