Speech Language Pathology

Our Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) work with deaf and hard of hearing children and their families to find the program best suited to their communication needs. This could be a mix of spoken language and listening, Auslan, keyword sign, and picture-based systems.

We actively promote a bicultural and bilingual approach to ensure the best outcome for the child and family.

This service is currently available in Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Townsville (immediate availability), Mackay and Cairns and online via telehealth.

Occupational Therapy

Our Occupational Therapists (OTs) aim to help your child develop their skills and independence so they can play with their friends, look after themselves, and develop the skills they need for school and life. 

This service is currently only available in Brisbane and Ipswich.

Physiotherapy

Some Deaf and hard of hearing children have challenges with their vestibular system and core stability, which can mean their ability to interact, play and explore may be decreased. Our physiotherapists support children to develop their core stability and gross motor skills so they can join in and have fun! 

This service is currently only available in Brisbane.

Physiotherapy

Psychology

More than 90% of deaf children are born into families with hearing parents and no experience of deafness. Deaf Connect psychologists have specialised knowledge regarding the language, communication, and social-emotional development of d/Deaf and hard of hearing children, as well as the impact of deafness on development.

We also offer specialised psychology assessments to support your child to better understand their presentation and intervention needs, as well as diagnosis.

This service is currently available in Brisbane, Townsville and online via telehealth.

Psychology

Teachers of the Deaf

Our Teachers of the Deaf (TODs) are teachers with postgraduate qualifications in deaf education. They focus on language acquisition, whether that be spoken and/or sign language. They have knowledge of the different communication opportunities (auditory-oral; bilingual-bicultural; spoken language in combination with Auslan; and all-inclusive communication system).  

This service is currently available in Brisbane and online via telehealth (immediate availability).

Teachers of the Deaf

Social Work

Our Social Workers support children, teens and adults with a NDIS plan, and their families, through challenges to their social, functional and mental wellbeing. They provide valuable information, counselling, advice and practical and emotional support. This service is currently available face-to-face in Adelaide or online via telehealth. Services for children under 18 years old are currently limited to South Australia.
