Recognising Diverse Communities
To symbolise our commitment to these values, Deaf Connect proudly displays several flags that represent some of the diverse communities we support.
The Deaf Flag, designed by French deafblind artist Arnaud Balard, symbolises the unity and pride of the Deaf community. It features a turquoise background representing Sign Language, a yellow hand symbolising enlightenment, and dark blue elements for humanity. First presented in 2013, the World Federation of the Deaf officially approved it in 2023.
The Deaf Flag is a unifying symbol – representing the whole intersectional Deaf community, including hard of hearing people, Deafblind, CODAs and more. Deaf Connect and our staff are proud to be part of that community and of our role in preserving and supporting Deaf culture, language and history.
The LGBTQIA+ Progress Flag was designed by Daniel Quasar in 2018. This updated version of the traditional rainbow pride flag incorporates elements that represent marginalised LGBTQIA+ communities, including people of colour and transgender individuals. Deaf Connect supports the LGBTQIA+ community and strives to create a workplace where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels respected and valued.
