What is the Smoke Alarm Subsidy Scheme?

The Smoke Alarm Scheme (SASS) is a Government-funded subsidy providing specialised smoke alarms to Deaf and hard of hearing community members living in Queensland and do not currently have an NDIS plan.

How much does it cost?

The total price for a Smoke Alarm Kit is $754.60*, however with the subsidy it is available to eligible community members for just $50, or $20 with a Concession Card.

What is included?

The smoke alarm supplied under the scheme is wireless with a non-removable 10-year battery. It includes a flashing light (EIB170RF Brooks Wireless 240V Vibralarm Warning Device) and vibrating pad (EIB605TYCRF Brooks Photoelectric 9V Wireless Smoke Alarm with Lithium Battery).

Deaf Connect do not install the smoke detectors or the accessories. For installation instructions, download this pack.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the subsidy you must be:

  • Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Living in Queensland
  • Not on the NDIS
