Auslan90 | Deep Dive | Fact-Checkers on Social Media

Published on: 17th January 2025

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

This week’s deep dive focuses on Fact-Checkers on Social Media.

How do you know what information is trustworthy on social media? Many platforms including Meta’s Facebook, Instagram and Threads, have systems in place to help prevent the spread of misinformation.

Meta partners with independent and certified fact-checkers to support its fact-checking program. Recently, the company announced it will soon end this program.

Watch this video to find out why this decision was made and what it could mean for users across its platforms.

This project is funded by the Federal Government Department of Social Services Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.

Your feedback on Auslan90, the news we cover and the format will help Deaf Connect better understand the demand for accessible news, and potentially expand the program beyond the pilot, so please provide any feedback in English or Auslan to [email protected]
