Auslan90 | Deep Dive | Flight Delay Compensation

Published on: 24th March 2025

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

Today’s deep dive focuses on Flight Delay Compensation.

In some parts of the world, including Europe, passengers are entitled to compensation if their flight is delayed or cancelled. This system encourages airlines to provide reliable and better service for passengers. Australia, however, does not have similar regulations.

A new bill is under consideration for a ‘Pay on Delay’ scheme, which could introduce penalties for airlines causing delays or cancellations – but there are concerns it might lead to higher flight prices. Watch the video to find out more.

This project is funded by the Federal Government Department of Social Services Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.

Your feedback on Auslan90, the news we cover and the format will help Deaf Connect better understand the demand for accessible news, and potentially expand the program beyond the pilot, so please provide any feedback in English or Auslan to auslan90@deafconnect.org.au
