This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.
In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.
Today’s deep dive focuses on the disputed region Kashmir.
Tensions have reignited between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, a scenic town in Kashmir. The attack led to retaliation by India on parts of Kashmir controlled by Pakistan, escalating fears of a broader conflict.
The history of Kashmir is one of religious and territorial disputes since the end of British colonial rule in 1947, which continues to fuel unrest. The region, claimed by both India and Pakistan, has seen decades of insurgency, and now as military forces on both sides remain on high alert, the world watches closely, wary of the risks posed by two nuclear powers locked in a volatile standoff.
Watch now to learn more about the history and consequences of the recent attacks in the region.
