Auslan90 | Deep Dive | RSV Vaccines to Prevent Hospitalisation

Published on: 24th February 2025

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

Today’s deep dive focuses on RSV Vaccines to Prevent Hospitalisation.

In 2024, Australia saw a record-breaking 175,786 cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This highly contagious virus poses significant risks, not just for babies and pregnant women, but also for older adults. RSV vaccines are available and have proven effective in reducing the risk of hospitalisation.

The government has recently announced free vaccinations for pregnant mothers and newborns, starting February 3 this year.

Additionally, a new vaccine for individuals aged 60 and over has been approved, with more details on availability and cost to be shared soon.
