What is it?

This event, which is being held prior to the World Federation of the Deaf Congress, aims to create a global network of deaf leaders and will focus on contemporary leadership practices.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, these sessions will provide valuable insights that you can use in your professional and personal life.

The event is fully funded by Deaf Connect, Gallaudet University and the World Federation of the Deaf, but participants are responsible for covering their own travel and accommodation costs.

Topics

The event is open to deaf people globally and will consist of three sessions, each offering participants the opportunity to learn more about specific topics related to their field. Topics include:

  • The Link between Emotional Intelligence and Transformative Community Change
  • Language Rights Advocacy (sign language recognition)
  • Partnering & Networking for Success

How to Apply

The application process involves:

  1. completing an online application form and 
  2. uploading a two-minute video in International Sign where you outline
  • why do you want to participate, 
  • your leadership skills and experience, and 
  • how you will apply learning post-event.

The application deadline is 11:59pm, May 10, 2023 in your local time zone, and successful applicants will be notified shortly after. Please reserve the important dates in your calendar, including the virtual sessions and the event itself.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply,

  • you must identify as a deaf
  • have a leadership role with a deaf sector organization in your country
  • be familiar with and have experience using International Sign
  • be over 18 years old.

Don’t worry if you have a little less or more experience/fluency, as the eligibility criteria are just a general guide.

Participants who complete the event will receive a Certificate of Participation co-awarded by all organisations.
