Designed for students in Years 1-10, our programs align with the Australian Curriculum: Languages and provide schools with a complete teaching, assessment and reporting solution.
Our Auslan programs are delivered by experienced Deaf educators who use Auslan as their everyday and preferred language. Through immersive classroom experiences, students develop communication skills while learning about the values, perspectives and cultural practices of Australia’s Deaf community. As a result, students do more than learn signs; they learn to communicate in a visual language and engage with the culture that shapes it.

For students commencing Auslan in Year 7, Deaf Connect recommends approximately two hours of learning per week. Regular exposure to the language supports deeper engagement, stronger communication skills and successful achievement of Australian Curriculum learning outcomes.
Pricing depends on how many classes your school runs each week. For the 2027 school year, schools booking 3 or more classes pay $227.00/hr (inc. GST) for one day a week, or $170.23/hr (inc. GST) if spread across more than one day a week. Schools booking 1–2 classes pay a flat rate of $227.00 per class (inc. GST).

Auslan classes run weekly and are structured to suit different year levels. Primary classes run for 45 minutes to 1 hour per week, while Secondary classes run for 2 hours per week (a condensed 1-hour-per-week version is also available for Secondary students).
All classes are taught by a Deaf Connect tutor. As tutors are not qualified teachers, classes must be supervised by a licensed teacher from your school at all times.
Technology requirements depend on your delivery format.
Face-to-face classes need a suitable classroom space with visual teaching aids, such as a screen or whiteboard, to support visual learning.
Online classes are delivered via Zoom and require a stable internet connection, a computer or device with camera and audio, and a large screen or projector so students can clearly see the tutor’s signing. It is recommended that each student has their own device with camera accessibility, so that tutors can see their signing in detail.
Deaf Connect’s Responsibility: The provision of a Deaf Auslan tutor delivering Auslan classes following the Australian Curriculum – Languages (version 9), class preparation, assessment preparation, resource development, administration and an Auslan interpreter when required.
School’s Responsibility: The provision of a safe learning space, whiteboard/smart TV for projection, and whiteboard markers. The school will provide a classroom teacher to assist with classroom management and parent reports.
The program is fully accessible to regional and remote schools through online classes delivered via Zoom. This means your students can learn Auslan from a Deaf Connect tutor regardless of your school’s location.
No, the program is open to all students and staff; whether deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing. Auslan classes benefit the whole school community by building communication skills, deaf awareness, and inclusion.

At this time, Auslan classes must be delivered by a Deaf Connect tutor, as they bring the language proficiency and cultural knowledge needed to teach Auslan authentically. Your school’s role is to provide a licensed teacher to supervise each class alongside the Deaf Connect tutor.
Supervising teachers are encouraged to participate in the learning themselves, though we understand this is not always possible.
