Our Family Mentors have undergone training and are ready to support families along their journey through Deaf Connect’s early-intervention Family Mentor Program! The program matches families of deaf and hard-of-hearing kids with Deaf Mentors to provide the stepping stones into language development, Deaf community and culture.
Let’s introduce you to the members of this wonderful team!
Meet Dimitra
Dimitra has previously worked as a Support Coordinator in the Information Services team in Parramatta, and has brought her playfulness, extraordinary empathy, and capacity to deal with complex situations to our Family Mentor team.
Meet Mark
Mark’s experience as a support worker and an Auslan Storytime presenter demonstrates his work with deaf and hard of hearing children and their families and his support with early literacy, where he’ll bring his great sense of humour to your learning journey.
Meet Raphie
Already involved with Parents of Deaf Children in NSW, Raphie is passionate about building responsive family relationships, teaching and supporting language development, and is a great critical thinker and solution–focused Family Mentor!
Meet Renee
Through her work as an Auslan interpreter, Renee’s expertise is building communication bridges which makes her a perfect Family Mentor to guide families through their child’s language acquisition. Renee is calm, open-hearted and will offer parents a warm welcome to the Deaf community.
The Family Mentor program requires whole-family participation and will initially only be offered in the Metro Sydney area.
