A world of opportunity

One of Lisa’s favourite things about being a support worker at Deaf Connect is the range of opportunities and different experiences she has had in her role.

Working with clients with varying goals and needs, every day looks different as a support worker.

“Deaf Connect have provided me many opportunities and been very open in their communication.”

Lisa commends the ease of communication between Deaf Connect and its staff, clients and community. As Deaf Connect is run by the Deaf community, for the Deaf community, communication is easy and seamless!

Hi, my name’s Lisa and I’m a Support Worker here at Deaf Connect. My inspiration for becoming a support worker was the ability to work with clients to help develop their confidence and independence and help them to achieve their goals.

Deaf Connect have provided me many opportunities and been very open in their communication. Because Deaf Connect are run by the Deaf community, for the Deaf community, it makes communication so easy and seamless.

Deaf Connect offer a variety of services to suit our clients’ needs. We plan with the client, if they want to go shopping, we’ll go shopping, if they want to go for a walk, we’ll go for a walk. Their needs and their goals are encouraged.

We empower our clients, we help develop their confidence, and we ensure we have simple and accessible communication. I think that’s a point of difference for Deaf Connect, communication means we’re more understanding of the client’s needs.

We take clients to activities such as making craft. You can see the positive impact this has on the clients almost instantaneously. They love learning new skills, socialising and meeting people. It’s just wonderful!
