Auslan90 | Deep Dive | Tracking Medicines

Published on: 30th March 2026

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

Today’s Deep Dive focuses on Tracking Medicines.

Nearly two million Australians take five or more medicines regularly, yet doctors and pharmacists often can’t see the full picture. Prescriptions are scattered across hospitals, GPs and online services increasing the risk of unsafe medicine combinations.

The federal government has announced major changes to how medicines are recorded. All online and telehealth prescribers will need to upload prescriptions to My Health Record, and a new National Medicines Record will be created to centrally track all current prescriptions. The goal is to reduce medication misuse and prevent tragedies linked to stockpiling or ‘doctor shopping’. Watch now to discover more.

This project is funded by the Federal Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.
