Happy National Week of Deaf People 2023!
Today’s theme is “Putting Deaf People On The Agenda”
Last week, Deaf Connect and Deaf Australia hosted a Parliamentary Breakfast.
It provided an opportunity for the Deaf sector to meet and network with Ministers and ‘put Deaf people on the agenda’. The event also acknowledged the Australian Deaf community, culture and language, Auslan, while focusing attention on critical issues related to Deaf Australians.

Breakfast at Parliament House
Deaf Australia and Deaf Connect partnered to host a breakfast at Parliament House in Canberra on Wednesday 13 September 2023.
This event was to celebrate National Week of Deaf People (18 – 24 September), and aimed to acknowledge the Australian Deaf community, culture and language – Auslan – while focusing attention on critical issues related to Deaf Australians.
We invited many Deaf leaders to attend to network with the ministers and policymakers. Deaf Connect proudly sponsored 11 future Deaf leaders to attend from all over Australia, and they were able to ask Mr Shorten some very engaging questions about the NDIS.
