Deaf Connect Adelaide is shaped by the lived experience of Deaf community members; our Deaf trainers, support workers and staff bring that knowledge into every session, consultation and service.

After extensive community consultation, in 2022 Deaf Can:Do and the Royal Australian Deaf Society transferred their services and resources to Deaf Connect. Collectively, staff in Adelaide from our founding organisations have over 225 years of collective history delivering community-led Auslan services in South Australia and across the country.

Our team provides support services that assist with services delivered in Auslan, empowering individuals independence and participation in everyday life.

Examples of support may include:

• Daily living support: Assistance with routines, transport and organisation
• Appointments and service access: Supporting participants in attending medical, education and community services
• Communication access: Services delivered in Auslan for Auslan users and the Deaf community
• Community participation: Support involvement in social activities and local programs
• Skill development: Build confidence and independence through practical support

We also provide Auslan interpreters across South Australia, as well as community-based programs, supports and services for deaf children and their families, as well as community events.

Education

If you are looking to learn Auslan in Adelaide, our classes provide clear entry points into Auslan learning with pathways that build over time.

Our Deaf trainers lead each class and bring lived experience into every session, keeping the focus on practical communication that can be applied across everyday situations. You can also learn sign language in Adelaide through structured programs designed for beginners and more advanced certificates.
