Deaf Connect is a national not-for-profit organisation for Deaf Australians and those who communicate in Auslan. We're the largest provider of services for Australia's Deaf community and we're also your local access point for Auslan courses in Cairns.

Our Queensland team delivers education, interpreting and support services as well as walk-in community access and local community events.

Deaf Connect’s Townsville location offers easy access to local services, education, and community supports including services and programs for deaf children and their families. Supporting the broader Deaf community in Northern Queensland, we provide learning pathways that help individuals, families, and workplaces build stronger communication skills and a deeper understanding of Deaf culture.

If you are looking to learn sign language in Townsville, this location provides clear entry points into Auslan learning with access to interpreting services, and community-based programs and services. Leading Deaf Services in the Townsville Area

Deaf Connect Townsville is part of our national organisation with deep roots in Queensland's Deaf community. Our staff (Deaf trainers, support workers and community connectors) bring firsthand knowledge of what it means to live, work and communicate as a Deaf person in Northern Queensland.

For those exploring Auslan classes in Townsville, accessing interpreting or looking for community support, our team works with you across a range of everyday settings.

Our team provides support services that assist with services delivered in Auslan, empowering individuals independence and participation in everyday life.

Education

If you are looking to learn Auslan classes in Cairns, Deaf Connect provides Auslan learning and pathways that support your skills development over time. Courses run from beginner level through to more advanced study, so you can progress your skills.

Our Deaf trainers lead each class and bring lived experience into every session, keeping the focus on practical communication and real-world use.

Your learning pathway may include:

Beginner Auslan classes: Build everyday Auslan communication skills through fun and informal sign language classes
Qualification courses in Auslan and interpreting: Provide recognised pathways for further study and career development
Deaf Awareness Training: Improve Deaf awareness and inclusion in workplaces and organisations

Supports for Families

Families with a deaf child may find our Therapy & Family Services suited to their needs. Families can access therapy and allied health services such as speech language pathology, occupational therapy, physio, and more through our Therapy & Family Services. Programs such as private Auslan tutoring in the home and Auslan Story Time at your local libary are designed to support families with deaf children in accessing Auslan suitable for their needs. Our team can help guide you towards the services that best suit your family and circumstances.

Finding Our Townsville Location

Deaf Connect Townsville is located at Suite 3, Level 1/313 Ross River Road, Aitkenvale QLD 4814, in the heart of Aitkenvale’s business precinct. Townsville Shopping Centre (Stockland) sits directly opposite the office, and Services Australia (Centrelink) is situated next door at 307–311 Ross River Road.

Ross River Road is one of Aitkenvale’s main thoroughfares, well connected to public transport and within easy reach of the broader Townsville region.

Getting here

By bus: The nearest stop is Townsville Shopping Centre on Ross River Road, directly across from the office. Multiple Kinetic Townsville (formerly Sunbus) routes service this stop, including the 200 service linking the CBD to Aitkenvale.
By car: Parking is available at Townsville Shopping Centre and on surrounding streets. The office is accessible from both directions along Ross River Road.
Accessibility: The building has lift access to Level 1 and accessible entry, and our team is available to assist on arrival.
