Deaf Connect offers a non-accredited Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course that targets students who have high Auslan and English proficiency and are interested in progressing their studies and completing PSP50922 – Diploma of Interpreting, which Deaf Connect (RTO #41192) delivers.
This course aims to assist candidates whose goal is to become an Auslan-English interpreter and who have been pre-screened as requiring further development in Auslan, English, and/or pre-interpreting skills to prepare them for entry into the Diploma of Interpreting.
Note: This course is NOT nationally recognised and does NOT lead to the issuance of an AQF [Australian Qualifications Framework] certification documentation. Instead, students who successfully complete all modules throughout the course will be offered direct entry into the Diploma of Interpreting at the next intake and will be issued with a Statement of Completion.

The Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course is made up of four (4) modules that you will need to successfully complete in order to be issued with a Statement of Completion:
The study option for this course is online only (virtual classroom via Zoom).
Live online sessions are timetabled in your Course Guide (in the ‘Course Documents’ tab).
Deaf Connect may make reasonable adjustments to accommodate students with disability, where possible. The adjustment made will be determined on a case-by-case basis after assessment of the individual need(s) of the student.

Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course students will complete the admission process for the Diploma of Interpreting as part of their course and will not need to register for the Pre-Screening and Admissions Testing.
Upon successful completion of the Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course, students will receive two separate outcomes:
1. Certificate of Completion
Students who successfully complete all required modules will be issued with a Certificate of Completion, which outlines the modules completed throughout the program.
The Certificate of Completion recognises successful participation within the Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course. However, it does not provide automatic or guaranteed entry into PSP50922 – Diploma of Interpreting.
Following completion of the Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course, your progress, skills, knowledge, and overall suitability for entry into the Diploma of Interpreting will be reviewed by an admission panel as part of the admission assessment process.
2. Admission Assessment
After the completion of the program and review of your performance, you will receive an Admission Assessment Outcome email.
This email will provide:
Students who only participate in some activities will receive a Statement of Participation.
Please note:
Whilst there are no occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements applicable to this course, interested candidates must have completed, or have Auslan skills equivalent to, PSP51018 – Diploma of Auslan.
As a result, Deaf Connect requires all candidates to complete a Pre-screening and Admissions Testing in order to be offered a place in the course. These tests include an assessment of the student’s basic Auslan receptive and production skills, their English skills, as well as ‘About you’ questions.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Only candidates who receive an official invitation for enrolment after having completed the Pre-Screening and Admissions Testing will be able to enrol into the course.
One semester is 18 weeks – two terms of 9 weeks.
Classes will be 2.5 hours per week.
However, outside this time, you are expected to complete approximately 5 hours per week for individual study, online learning, revision and processing of information from class activities, research and preparation of assessments, and community contact.

Our Learning Management System (Moodle) is not easily accessible from smart phones or tablets and is best accessed on a laptop or desktop computer. Due to the way our courses are structured, the Moodle App for either Apple or Android is NOT SUITABLE for studying Deaf Connect courses. You are at risk of not seeing all learning materials in full when attempting to access them via a mobile phone or tablet.
For classroom-based courses, laptops are preferred rather than phones or tablets and you may need to hotspot from your phone. For blended courses, you MUST use a laptop or desktop computer and your screen must be of adequate size (about 22”) in order for you to clearly see your trainer and classmates. We recommend you use two monitors: one for the PowerPoint and one for your Zoom class.
Email is the primary means by which we will contact you about your course, e.g. to confirm a course once minimum enrolment numbers are achieved, or cancel if we do not receive enough enrolments.

Candidates who are offered a place in the Auslan-English Interpreting Bridging Course but choose not to enrol will be required to complete the entry requirements again if they wish to reapply for the course in the future.
Future Admission Testing will incur a fee to cover the costs associated with assessing and providing feedback to candidates.
