This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.
In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.
Today’s deep dive focuses on Democratic Republic of the Congo Conflict. Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) for over 30 years, since the 1994 Rwandan genocide, armed groups have battled for control of the country’s vast mineral wealth, including valuable resources like coltan and copper, which are crucial to global technology such as mobile phones.
More recently, the M23 rebel group have made rapid advances, capturing key cities and towns, including Goma and Bukavu.
Watch this video to explore the key events that have shaped the conflict and how the border between DR Congo and Rwanda remains one of the longest running conflicts in the world.
