This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this video contains images of deceased persons.
In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.
Today’s deep dive focuses on National Sorry Day.
National Sorry Day, also known as National Healing Day, is observed each year on 26th May to honour the strength and resilience of the Stolen Generations – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families. The day marks the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report, which called for a formal apology and national acknowledgment of this painful chapter in Australian history.
Often confused with the 2008 National Apology delivered by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, National Sorry Day stands apart for its emphasis on remembrance, reflection, and healing. Closely followed by National Reconciliation Week, it is a meaningful time to listen, deepen our understanding, and work together towards a more inclusive and truthful future. Watch now to learn more.
This project is funded by the Federal Government Department of Social Services Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.
