Auslan90 | Deep Dive | NDIS New Planning Framework

Published on: 6th January 2026

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

Today’s deep dive focuses on the NDIS New Planning Framework.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will introduce a New Planning Framework from mid‑2026, using the I‑CAN version 6 tool to assess real‑world support needs and set fairer budgets.

Plans will be generated through streamline processes, as the government aims to halve the yearly growth of new NDIS participants to keep the scheme sustainable.

However, disability advocates are wary, warning this approach could reduce transparency and limit appeal rights. Watch the video to learn about the purpose of this rollout and how your next NDIS review could see new changes.

Watch the video to discover more.

This project is funded by the Federal Government Department of Social Services Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.
