This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.
In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.
Today’s deep dive focuses on the ‘Nuclear-Armed Drones’.
At the recent United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy warned of a new kind of arms race unfolding – driven by small, increasingly autonomous drones that could soon carry nuclear warheads. This comes after a series of alarming drone disruptions at airports across Denmark, Germany, and Poland in recent weeks, fuelling fears over the rapid evolution of drone warfare.
Experts suggest nuclear-capable drones may already exist, with Russia likely advancing this technology. AI-controlled systems add another layer of complexity, raising concerns about future conflict decisions potentially being made without human oversight.
Watch the video to understand the emerging threat – and why Zelenskyy is urging world leaders to act now before it’s too late.
