Auslan90 | Deep Dive | Sunday Scaries

Published on: 27th January 2026

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

Today’s deep dive focuses on Sunday Scaries.

Feeling stressed about going back to work on Monday? You’re not alone. These “Sunday scaries” hit even harder after the holidays, says psychologist Dr Luke Martin. Your brain sees the new year as a big change, which can cause real symptoms like headaches and trouble sleeping.

If this happens to you every week, it might mean something at work needs to change — maybe you’re too busy, or your job doesn’t feel right for you. The fix could be simple: plan your week on Fridays, stay off work emails on weekends, and try relaxation techniques. If it’s really bad, you can get professional help that works. Don’t let Sunday scaries steal your weekends.
