Auslan90 | Deep Dive | Under 16s Social Media Ban

Published on: 26th November 2025

This is Auslan90 – Deep Dive, produced by Deaf Connect, supported by SBS.

In addition to our Daily news, Deaf Connect produces ‘deep dive’ videos which provide more detail and context to the biggest stories of the week.

Today’s deep dive focuses on the Under 16s Social Media Ban

From the 10th of December, Australia will restrict youth aged 16 and under from holding social media accounts. Under the new online safety law, major platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Snapchat and YouTube will be required to take reasonable steps to prevent younger users from creating or maintaining accounts, or face a hefty fine.

Watch now to find out how this law will affect you or your child, and how it will be enforced.

This project is funded by the Federal Government Department of Social Services Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) program.
