COVID-19 UPDATE – FRIDAY 18 MARCH 2022

This is our Auslan COVID-19 update for Friday 18 March 2022, including national and state information.

This is a Deaf Connect Auslan COVID-19 update for today, Friday 18.3.22. Please note, important, This will be our final COVID update for now unless the situation changes further.

Since COVID-19 first begin to spread in Australia Deaf Connect has produced over 400 information videos to support the community to understand the latest updates.

This is in addition to hundreds of hours of interpreted press conferences.

We would like to thank the team behind the creation of our scripts, our Auslan talent, and our interpreters for their work since 2020.

In future we will produce similar news updates for other critical health issues or natural disasters.

NSW 

Another six COVID deaths were recorded in the state.  

NSW has 1,060 cases in hospital, with 32 of those in intensive care.  

There were 20,050 new cases today.  

VIC 

Victoria recorded nine deaths. 

There are 199 COVID cases in hospital, with 23 of those in intensive care.  

The state recorded 9,036 new cases today.
 

QLD 

There have been 11 new COVID-19 deaths reported.  

Of the 245 cases in hospital, 20 are in intensive care. 

There were 6,103 new cases. 

TAS 

The state recorded no new COVID deaths.  

There currently 23 cases in hospital, but Tasmania’s Department of Heath says only five of those are being treated specifically for COVID symptoms.  

Of those in hospital, three are in intensive care.  

There were 1,779 new cases today.  

Tasmania has reached its highest number of active cases since the pandemic started, with today’s figure of 9,105 passing the January peak of 8,764. 

ACT 

There were no new deaths in the ACT overnight.  

There are 37 people in hospital with the virus, including four in intensive care, with one requiring ventilation. 

The ACT has recorded 1,123 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday. 

WA 

On the 17th March, WA Health is reported total of 7,151 new cases to 8pm last night. There are currently 31,211 active cases in Western Australia. 

WA Health can confirm a female in her eighties has passed away. 

To 8pm last night, there were 122 people with COVID-19 in hospital, four in ICU.
