Deaf Space. Your space. Your culture. 💬
Transcript:
Hello. I want to let you all know that we’re going to have a consultation about Deaf Space. Deaf Space can be when Deaf people come together to engage with each other in our language, Auslan, and share our strong, Deaf culture. It can be any space where we come together. I’ll give you some other examples of what these spaces may look like. It could be at a restaurant when Deaf people need to arrange seats to sit in a circle and remove objects out of the way to see each other. Or, when in a Zoom meeting, needing to rearrange the video tiles and pin who we want to focus on. It can also be Deaf events like festivals and sports carnivals.
We want to have a conversation with you all about Deaf Space and what that means to you. To also have you share your opinions and ideas which will help us to learn and understand to better improve future Deaf Spaces. Here in Adelaide, we’re wondering where the best Deaf Spaces may be. We’re keen to listen to your ideas and have a conversation. The consultation will be held at the Deaf Connect Hub at 200 South Road in Mile End. There are two dates you can choose from to attend. Tuesday 25th of March from 6pm-8pm or on Wednesday 26th of March 10am-12pm. Please arrive 30 minutes before our start time. If you want to come, please RSVP online via Eventbrite or ask one of our Deaf Connect staff members to help you to register.
If you can’t come in person, we’re also hosting Zoom consultations. Have a look at our website for the Zoom dates and times. Come along and tell us your opinions and feedback about what Deaf Space means to you and how it reflects your Deaf culture. Help us to understand this better so we can improve Deaf Spaces in the future. Come along! I look forward to seeing you there!
