Deaf Space. Your space. Your culture.
Transcript:
Hello. I want to let you all know that we’ll be having a community consultation about Deaf Space. Deaf Space can mean several different things such as the space where Deaf people come together to engage with each other and feel connected or events like an ‘Auslan morning tea’ at a café like this one here. It can also be the way that we come together, like how we typically seat ourselves in a circle to see each other or how we always need to move visual obstructions like this vase.
Come and join us to talk about Deaf Space, let us know what that means to you and how we can build great Deaf Spaces. The consultations will be held on the 23rd of March from 6pm-8pm and the 24th of March from 10am-12pm at the Deaf Connect Community Centre in Cairns. Please RSVP via Eventbrite or you can contact one of us staff members to help you to register your attendance. If you can’t make it in person, don’t worry. You can join us on Zoom. Have a look at our website for our Zoom dates coming up. I look forward to seeing you there.

The video intro features the Deaf Space logo and a title that reads “Your Space. Your Culture. Cairns.” The logo shrinks to the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
The presenter is sitting in a cafe setting, behind a wooden table with glasses of water and a takeaway coffee cup. It looks brightly lit and sunny with light reflecting off the windows in the background. They are wearing a black polo t-shirt with the Deaf Connect logo embroidered on it. They have short hair that looks slicked back away from their face and are wearing glasses. They are signing in a calm and friendly manner towards the camera.
The video outro features text about the event that reads “Join the Deaf Space Consultations. Cairns: Sun 23 March 5:30pm-8pm, Mon 24 March 9:30am-12pm. Deaf Connect Office, 37 Pease Street, Manoora. Visit our website for other dates and to RSVP: www.deafconnect.org.au/deaf-space”
