Hello, I’m Lauren. I wanted to let you know that we will be hosting consultations about Deaf Space. What is Deaf Space? Well, it’s when Deaf people gather, and you can see Deaf Culture. This might look like searching for the best place to meet with other Deaf people, a place that suits Deaf people. Or you know what it’s like at the Deaf club—if the menu is popped up between you and your friend, you’ll move that to the side so you can see each other clearly. Or a very busy Zoom meeting. You will pin the right people so you can see them clearly. Or attending events or an art gallery—people being in between you and the interpreter, you’ll clear them away to make sure you can see the interpreter clearly. Or sitting around a round table so that everyone can see each other clearly.
We want to consult with you about things like that—to understand what Deaf Space means here in Australia, to understand how we can build great Deaf Spaces. It’s important for us to build a strong relationship with our Deaf community to help it thrive and grow. We will be consulting with you about that. The consultation will be held at the Mawson Club.
We have two dates: Wednesday, 5 March and Thursday, 6 March. Wednesday, 5 March will be held from 5:30 PM to 8 PM. Thursday will be a morning session from 9:30 AM to 12 PM. Please RSVP by registering at Eventbrite or contact Deaf Connect to have them register for you.
If you can’t attend a face-to-face session, we will be holding a Zoom workshop. Please check the website for the date and time. Please come along and get involved. Tell us your perspective. It’s important. It’ll help us be informed and help us understand Deaf Space better. We want to learn and help grow your spaces and your culture. Come on and join in. Let’s make Deaf Space work well. We can’t wait to see you there. Bye!
