[Two people are sitting at a table having a conversation in Auslan. Behind them is a green door with a silver handle. The person on the left, Kayleen, is wearing a bright blue long-sleeve shirt and glasses. The person on the right, Steven, is wearing a black t-shirt, and a black cap with sunglasses on his head.] [STEVEN] Hello, I’m Steven.

[KAYLEEN] Hi, I’m Kayleen. Over to you, Steven.

[S] Deaf Connect are holding consultations about Deaf Space around Australia and will be in Tasmania. Deaf Space is a place where people can gather and feel comfortable to talk and learn about Deaf Culture.

[K] So what’s happening with the consultations?

[S] Well, we want to know what you think about what Deaf Space could be or should be. For me, it’s somewhere that’s bright, where you can see people easily and communicate easily. Sometimes when you meet Deaf people in a pub that’s too dark and crowded—that, to me, is not a Deaf Space. Just as an example. So where and when are the consultations?

[K] The first is on 7th March at the Granada Tavern in Berriedale from 9:30 AM until 12 PM. There will also be a night event on 7th March at Irish Murphy‘s in Hobart from 5:30 PM until 8 PM. Hope to see you there!

[S] And what if you can’t make one of the face-to-face events?

[K] If you can’t attend one of the face-to-face events, that’s OK. Feel free to join the Zoom event. Check the Deaf Connect website for the date, time, and details.

[S] Come along. It’ll be nice to see you there.

[K] Your feedback is valuable. It will lead to better outcomes for you and help develop a greater understanding of Deaf Culture and Deaf Space.

[S] See you there.
