Join our consultation on Deaf Space to explore what it is and how it connects to you and your child’s journey. We are excited to learn what Deaf Space means to your family.

Hello, I’m Andrew Wiltshire. I’m here to tell you about the Deaf Space Project. This project is holding workshops around Australia. These workshops will also be held here in Sydney. The Deaf Space Project is engaging with the community to hear what the community thinks about Deaf space.
You know, when you go to a restaurant and there are things on the table that obstruct your view? You clear that away so you can comfortably communicate. Or you may go to an interpreted theatre event where you’re able to meet and communicate with other Deaf people. Or you attend a deaf festival or a Deaf sporting event. Are these venues and spaces Deaf spaces? How do you feel when you engage with these spaces?
We also want to hear your ideas as to how we can make sure we have Deaf spaces here in Sydney. Perhaps you would like to have online education sessions from a Deaf educator. Maybe you would like to have a variety of events Deaf people can attend. Or even Zoom education sessions.
The event will be held on Tuesday, the 4th of March. The morning session, arriving at 9:30am to start at 10 and finishing at 12pm. Or the evening session, arriving at 5.30pm to start at 6pm, finishing at 8pm. The event will be held at the Deaf Connect office in Parramatta, Level 4, 69 Phillips Street, Parramatta. You will need to RSVP via Eventbrite to acknowledge that you’re coming. Check the link. If you can’t attend those face-to-face events, there will be a Zoom event that you can engage with.
