On Thursday 5 February, we had the absolute joy of announcing something we’ve never announced before – the first ever one million dollar winner of the Deaf Lottery!
For many years, our major prize has remained at $800,000. But after such a big 2025 and with the incredible support of our community, we wanted to deliver something truly special.
And special it was!
Deaf Lottery 227 proved to be the biggest and most successful lottery that Deaf Connect has ever run. It drove up proceeds and new subscribers by a substantial amount, delivering crucial funding for the services, programs and supports that Deaf Connect provides to the community.
On the day, our Brisbane team gathered in the Deaf Kitchen as Deaf Connect CEO Brett Casey made the call to the winner. She didn’t answer the first time (we were all holding our breath), but just five minutes later, the phone rang back!
That’s when Brett got to deliver the life-changing news.
The winner was in complete shock – the kind of moment you don’t forget. There was so much excitement in the room, and just as much from staff watching online.
