NSW | Short Courses for Deaf Adults

Our New South Wales Short Courses for Deaf Adults are starting soon!

These courses run for 4-5 weeks and there are lots on offer for Deaf adults to gain life and job skills:

English for Work 

Improve your English at work. This course will teach you how to write emails, simple reports, minutes and agendas. You will learn how to use tone, language and other aspects of professional communication.

When: TUESDAY EVENINGS – 6pm to 8.30pm, 4 February to 25 February

Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta


Learning About Money

You will learn the financial basics of managing your money. This course will help you discover your values and beliefs around money, help you set goals, understand budgeting, cashflow, debt and superannuation.

When: TUESDAY EVENINGS – 6pm to 8.30pm4 March to 25 March

Linguistics of Auslan

You will learn what makes Auslan different from English. Discover the five parameters of Auslan and how we make signs. Find out about different types of signs such as depicting signs. Learn how we use space, role shift and body partitioning. At the end of this course, you will have an appreciation for the complexity of Auslan.

WEDNESDAY EVENINGS – 6pm to 8pm, 5 March to 2 April (NSW time)

Where: ONLINE

If you have never used Zoom before, let us know and we will set you up before the first class. You must have a laptop with a camera to do this course. 


Work Behaviours for Success

You will learn about what is professional behaviour at work. This course will teach you about communication, appearance, teamwork and professional boundaries. You will learn about conflicts of interest and how to manage that. You will learn how to reflect on your reactions and responses to situations around you.

When: THURSDAY EVENINGS – 6pm to 8.30pm, 6 February to 27 February

Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta 


Government Services

Get familiar with government services and what they do. Learn how to access these services online through myGov, NDIS, ATO, Medicare, Centrelink and Service NSW. You will be shown what Auslan information they have, and how to understand their websites and what services they have. Please bring your tablet or laptop if you have one.

When: THURSDAY EVENINGS – 6pm to 8.30pm, 6 March to 27 March

Driving Knowledge Test 

This course will teach you how to prepare for the NSW Driver Knowledge Test. Together as a class, we will go through the online course and practice the test. By the end of the course, you will be ready to go for the test and get your Learner’s.

When: SATURDAYS – 9.30pm to 12pm, 8 February to 1 March

Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta 


Job Search Essentials 

Learn the essential skills for finding a job. You will learn what your strengths are, and what jobs suit you. You will learn how to research what jobs are in your area. You will learn how to read job advertisements and how to write a resume. You will learn interview skills and what to check when you are given a job.

When: SATURDAYS – 1pm to 3.30pm, 8 February to 1 March

Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta
