Our Interpreters: Sarah

Published on: 22nd July 2022

We asked one of our South Australian interpreters, Sarah, why she enjoys working at Deaf Connect. Watch her Auslan video or read through our blog below.

What is the best thing about being an interpreter?

ā€œThe variety of work I get to do and the exciting experiences I am exposed to whilst providing access and inclusion to the community.ā€

What is your career highlight?

Sarahs career highlight was her role as one of the interpreters for ā€˜The Great Debateā€™ through Deaf Connect, during the 2022 Australian Prime Ministerial Election televised across the country. This was the first time (since 1990) a debate of this kind had been made available to the Deaf community in Auslan, ensuring access to critical information leading up to the election through the work of Interrupters.

What is the best thing about working at Deaf Connect?

ā€œThe best part about working for Deaf Connect is the collegiality, openness to give and receive feedback and the amazing interpreting opportunities that I havenā€™t always had in the past.ā€ Says Sarah.
