Reflecting on 2024

As we near the end of 2024, it’s a perfect time to reflect on what has been a remarkable year for Deaf Connect.

This year, our community, clients, supporters, members, and staff worked hard together to reach our goals. Your efforts have made 2024 a truly impactful year, and for that, we are immensely grateful.

This year, we celebrated numerous milestones together. We hosted Deaf Festival Sydney, Deaf Festival Brisbane, and took part in many other Deaf events, making 2024 a year of connection and celebration. A highlight of this year was the Gallaudet University Immersion Program, where five young people experienced a university entirely for Deaf students.

At Deaf Connect, we strive to respond to the needs of our community. This year, we established the Ageing Well program in Western Australia and Victoria, providing essential services to those over 65 who need extra care to remain in their homes. We also warmly welcomed the WA community and Access Plus staff into Deaf Connect. Since then, we’ve seen incredible services flourishing in Western Australia.

While 2024 has been a year of achievements, there is still much work to be done. Our new strategic plan, launching in early 2025, will guide us in the years ahead. This plan will help us continue to meet the needs and demands of our community while delivering vital services. Together, we will work towards a stronger future.

To our staff, volunteers, board members, supporters, and most importantly, the Deaf community: thank you for being part of this journey with Deaf Connect. Your commitment and passion inspire us every day. As we move into 2025, we look forward to working together to create an even brighter future.

Take care, enjoy the holiday season, and we can’t wait to see you all in the new year.

Transcript: Hello. We have arrived near the end of 2024. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. Thank you to everyone — our community, clients, supporters, members, and staff. All of you have worked hard this year for Deaf Connect, and together, we have achieved many of our goals throughout 2024.
Some highlights include the Deaf Festival Sydney, Deaf Festival Brisbane, and various other Deaf events throughout the year. Another achievement was the Gallaudet University Immersion Program, where we sent five young people to experience what it feels like to be immersed in a university where everyone is Deaf.
Your stories, challenges, and hopes for the future have been inspiring. I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable work happening here at Deaf Connect. This year, we established the Ageing Well program in Western Australia and Victoria, providing services to those over 65 who need additional care to stay in their homes. We also welcomed the WA community and Access Plus staff into Deaf Connect, and since then, we have seen amazing services provided in WA.
Looking ahead to 2025, there is still much to be done. This work will be guided by our new strategic plan, which will be implemented in early 2025. This plan will direct our organisation over the next few years, focusing on responding to our community’s needs and demands to deliver impactful services.
To all the staff, volunteers, board members, supporters, and, most importantly, the Deaf community — thank you for being part of this journey with Deaf Connect. Your commitment and passion inspire me in what I do, and I hope we can continue to work together strongly in 2025. Take care, enjoy the holiday period, and I look forward to seeing all of you next year. Thank you.
