What’s On: Deaf Community Events Coming Up This August

August is shaping up to be an exciting month for the Deaf community, with the biggest community event of the year coming up: Deaf Festival Sydney! But that’s not all. Read on for a quick rundown of what’s coming up for the rest of the month. 


Open Deaf Community Event: New Pilot Deaf Space in Perth!

Sunday 24 August | 10:30am – 12:30pm 
Deaf Connect Perth Office, 44A Kings Park Road, West Perth WA 

We are starting a pilot Deaf Space project in Perth and we want to collaborate with you! 

Come along to be part of the conversation and meet Richard Dougherty, a Deaf architect from Gallaudet University. It’s a great chance to learn more about DeafSpace and how we can create a Deaf Space in Perth!

Deaf Ecosystem Summit 2025

Thursday 28 August – Friday 29 August 
Pullman Hotel, Sydney Olympic Park 

The Deaf Ecosystem Summit 2025 is bringing together Deaf professionals, businesses, and community leaders to connect, collaborate and grow. Held fully in Auslan, this two-day summit will spark ideas, forge partnerships and strengthen Deaf-led initiatives across Australia.

FlowTV: The Down Under Visit – Live in Sydney!

Get ready, Sydney! Florian Tirnovan, aka FlowTV, is making his Australian debut! This Deaf comedian and viral content creator is hitting the stage for a one-night-only event full of humour, storytelling and reflection on his journey as a performer and mental health advocate.

We’ve been banging on about Deaf Festival Sydney for a few weeks now, so hopefully it’s not the first time you’re hearing about it here. Get ready, because the biggest Deaf event in Australia is back on in just over two weeks! Expect live performances, food stalls, marketplaces, and an atmosphere buzzing with community pride.
