Supporting UsherKids Australia through Deaf Connect’s Grants and Sponsorships Program!
Recently, we were thrilled to support UsherKids Australia through our Grants and Sponsorships Program, helping make their first national youth camp possible! Check out their recap video on their website here.
For young people living with Usher syndrome – a condition involving both deafness and vision loss – opportunities to meet others with the same lived experience are rare. The camp created a space where young people and families from across Australia could come together, connect and simply feel understood.
UsherKids Australia works nationally to support children, young people and families affected by Usher syndrome. Their work focuses on reducing isolation and building confidence.
Designed to be fully accessible, the camp supported all communication modes, including Auslan and spoken English. With Usher mentors, accessible supports and peer-led activities, young people were able to communicate freely, build friendships and take part in activities in a way that felt safe and empowering.
UsherKids Australia has already announced plans to run the next national youth camp in July 2027, continuing to create spaces where young people can connect, grow and look to the future with confidence. Learn more about UsherKids Australia, their upcoming events, and all of the incredible work they do on their website here.
If you have a project or initiative that empowers the community, applications for our 2026 Grants and Sponsorships Program are now open!
