On behalf of our board and staff, Deaf Connect would like to congratulate our CEO, Brett Casey on his appointment to the Board of Trustees of Gallaudet University.
Gallaudet University, based in Washington, D.C., is a university for Deaf and hard of hearing students and is recognised internationally for its contribution to Deaf education, research and leadership. The Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the university and includes members from across the Deaf community, education, business and public life.
Brett Casey has served as Chief Executive Officer of Deaf Connect since 2010 and has held a number of leadership, governance and advisory roles within the disability and Deaf sectors in Australia and internationally.
Brett Casey’s appointment means an Australian Deaf leader will contribute to discussions and decisions that help guide one of the most influential institutions in the international Deaf community.
Deaf Connect has maintained a close relationship with Gallaudet University through initiatives including the Gallaudet University Immersion Program (GUIP) and a Memorandum of Understanding between our organisations. The appointment adds to those longstanding connections and provides another opportunity for Australian Deaf perspectives and experiences to be represented within an international setting.
This appointment does not impact Brett’s role as CEO of Deaf Connect – we congratulate Brett on his appointment and wish him every success in his new role.
