Designed for Deaf adults looking to build upon their existing skills, our short courses run once a week for 4-5 weeks from our Parramatta office.
Timing: February – March 2025
Designed for Deaf adults wanting to build foundational skills, our 18 week courses run once a week for 18 weeks (with a 1 week break)

Improve your English at work. This course will teach you how to write emails, simple reports, minutes and agendas. You will learn how to use tone, language and other aspects of professional communication.
When: TUESDAY EVENINGS – 6.00pm to 8.30pm, 29 April to 20 May
Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta
You will learn the financial basics of managing your money. This course will help you discover your values and beliefs around money, help you set goals, understand budgeting, cashflow, debt and superannuation.

Where: Deaf Connect, Parramatta
You will learn what makes Auslan different from English. Discover the five parameters of Auslan and how we make signs. Find out about different types of signs such as depicting signs. Learn how we use space, role shift and body partitioning. At the end of this course, you will have an appreciation for the complexity of Auslan.
WEDNESDAY EVENINGS – 6.00pm to 8.00pm, 5 March to 2 April (NSW time)
If you have never used Zoom before, let us know and we will set you up before the first class. You must have a laptop with a camera to do this course.
You will learn about what is professional behaviour at work. This course will teach you about communication, appearance, teamwork and professional boundaries. You will learn about conflicts of interest and how to manage that. You will learn how to reflect on your reactions and responses to situations around you.
THURSDAY EVENINGS – 6.00pm to 8.30pm, 31 April to 22 May
Get familiar with government services and what they do. Learn how to access these services online through myGov, NDIS, ATO, Medicare, Centrelink and Service NSW. You will be shown what Auslan information they have, and how to understand their websites and what services they have. Please bring your tablet or laptop if you have one.
THURSDAY EVENINGS – 6.00pm to 8.30pm, 6 March to 27 March
This course will teach you how to prepare for the NSW Driver Knowledge Test. Together as a class, we will go through the online course and practice the test. By the end of the course, you will be ready to go for the test and get your Learner’s.
SATURDAYS – 9.30am to 12.00pm, 8 February to 1 March
Learn the essential skills for finding a job. You will learn what your strengths are, and what jobs suit you. You will learn how to research what jobs are in your area. You will learn how to read job advertisements and how to write a resume. You will learn interview skills and what to check when you are given a job.
SATURDAYS – 1.00pm to 3.30pm, 8 February to 1 March
Learn how to use an iPad and computer, the internet, different apps and programs, and technology for everyday life and communication.
MONDAYS – 9:30am to 12:00pm, 10 February – 30 June
Break: Monday 14 April – Friday 2 May.
Explore and create with different digital art techniques and tools, and learn the basics of digital design.

Learn fundamental maths skills and how to use and save money in everyday life.

Deaf Connect requires students to undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) Test as part of the enrolment process.

5 Week Courses are designed for Deaf and hard-of-hearing adults who are looking to build upon their existing skill or learn new skills to support their professional development or interests. If you’re looking to upskill or looking for to build skills in a shorter amount of time or if you need flexibility around work during the day, the 5-week course could be a good option.
18 Week Courses are designed for Deaf and hard-of-hearing adults who are looking to build foundational life skills. If you’re not currently working, these skill can help support you to enter the workforce for the first time. 18-week courses run Monday-Friday during the day.
