This is a cyclone update for the Deaf Community in Queensland – particularly Far North Queensland, including Cairns and Townsville on Monday 22 January at 11am.
It is currently predicted that a tropical cyclone in the Coral Sea is expected to develop late on Monday night. When it forms, the new cyclone will be named Kirrily.
It will reach category three strength by Wednesday morning and is expected to impact areas between Cairns and Mackay – including Townsville.
The cyclone may impact a range of areas along the Queensland coast, so all of Far North Queensland should be aware.
Affected areas could include these:
Atherton | Bowen | Cairns |Â Cardwell |Â Chillagoe |Â Cooktown |Â Hamilton Island |Â Innisfail | Kowanyama |Â Mackay |Â Pormpuraaw |Â Port Douglas |Â Townsville |Â Tully | Willis Island | Wujal Wujal
It may impact as far south as Rockhampton.
This will be another dangerous cyclone. Residents have been warned to avoid driving on flooded roads if flash flooding does occur.
Even if a cyclone does not form, the water levels in rivers and creeks are still high from previous rain, and there is a severe risk of flooding.
Please ensure you and your families and community are prepared before this weekend, and keep an eye on news and forecasts where possible.

It is currently predicted that a severe tropical cyclone will form on Sunday or Monday, which may impact the Queensland coast from Tuesday onwards, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The cyclone may impact a range of areas along the Queensland coast, so all of Far North Queensland should be aware.
If it continues on its current path, affected areas could include these, but this might change.
