What I Love About Being a Support Worker – Kerry

Watch Kerry‘s interview:

“I love support work because I love being involved in the community, meeting people…I just love my job!”

Meet our Support Workers: Kerry Priem

Kerry is a Deaf Connect Support Worker based in New South Wales who works with clients of all different backgrounds and abilities!

One of her favourite things about working with Deaf Connect is the accessibility and ease of communication when it comes to Auslan.

“Here at Deaf Connect, Auslan is used every day and I can communicate easily. Having a team at work means I can chat with colleagues one-on-one or via Zoom for staff meetings, and we all communicate and support one another at work.”

Deaf Connect Support Workers have the opportunity to work with a range of different clients. Kerry works with both Deaf and Deafblind participants to help them achieve their goals and improve their quality of life!

Reflecting on her experiences with her clients, Kerry says:

“A memorable experience I have is seeing a participant I’ve been supporting gain confidence to become assertive and greet others, even people who can’t sign! Seeing their confidence and independence grow is such an uplifting experience.”
