National Needs and Gap Analysis: Deaf Seniors in Aged Care
As part of this research project, we undertook a national needs and gap analysis to better understand:
- The experiences of Deaf Seniors in residential Aged Care,
- The experience of Deaf Seniors in post-home support settings, and
- The transition points that lead people into aged care services
Our research explored the barriers, challenges and opportunities Deaf Seniors encounter as they navigated the Australian aged care system. The themes of these conversations reflect the focus areas outlined in the Aged Care Act 2024.

What Deaf Seniors told us about Aged Care
Over the past year, 193 Deaf Seniors, family members, CODAs, aged care providers and stakeholders shared their stories through interviews and focus groups across Australia.
From these experiences, the Deaf Seniors Research Report has been developed.
This report provides evidence-based insights into the experiences of Deaf Seniors and strengthens the case for more accessible, inclusive and culturally appropriate aged care services.
