Hello, this year’s International Day of People with Disabilities, which happens every year on the 3rd of December, has a theme. Do you want to see a future that is strong, sustainable and inclusive of all? To achieve this, we need to amplify the leadership of people with disability. Deaf Connect embraces this theme and it’s important that we support our Deaf leaders.
Deaf leadership can mean a variety of things and encompass various roles. Whether you’re Deaf, Hard of hearing, or Deafblind, if you contribute, you can influence change for a better future.
Deaf Connect has organised various activities that spotlights Deaf leadership. An example is Life As a Deaf Leader video series. Bringing the community together across various events such as Deaf Festival Sydney. We also partnered with the Australian Institute of Company Directors to provide governance training for Deaf leaders. Which means they all learn the skills needed to sit on boards and committees, therefore having the confidence to be part of various committees and boards in the community, whether that’s a sporting committee, on local council or a community group. But by participating, they can influence change for an inclusive and sustainable future for the Deaf community for many more years to come.
Happy International Day of People with Disability.
