There are no occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements applicable to this qualification at the time of publication on the National Register.
However, Deaf Connect requires students to undertake a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy (LLND) Test as part of the enrolment process. You must score a minimum of 3 points in all core skills, except numeracy and digital literacy, for your enrolment to be approved.
To succeed in this course, students will also benefit from having these skills:
- A good memory for learning and recalling new signs,
- Strong concentration and visual attention skills,
- Some accuracy in reproducing handshapes and movements,
- A willingness to practise, accept feedback and build confidence using Auslan,
- An open and respectful attitude toward Deaf culture.
Note: Effective use of your arms, hands, and fingers is essential for Auslan. If you have a physical disability or sustain an injury that affects your ability to use these body parts, please inform us as soon as possible. This will allow us to assess how it may impact your course participation and discuss potential accommodations, including extensions or deferrals.
Some students choose to complete a Beginner Course before enrolling in this course. This can be helpful for deciding whether students want to commit to further studies in Auslan. The content in a Beginner Course is also covered in the early stages of the Certificate II course. Beginner Courses are not mandatory.
More information will be provided to you upon assessment of your eligibility for your course of choice.
You can find more information in our Enrolment Policy or in our Student Handbook.
