Sign Online (SOL) is our self-guided online course, perfect for beginners who want the flexibility to learn at a time that suits them. Like our Introduction to Auslan 1 class, it’s an ideal starting point if you have no previous experience with Auslan.
You can enrol at any time for Sign Online. You will learn through a series of videos and quizzes, and will be able to connect with other students in our online community forum.

Please note that our online learning system, Moodle, is designed for use on a laptop or desktop computer. To ensure you can see all course materials and participate fully, we do not recommend using a mobile phone or tablet.
Once you enrol your login details will be emailed to you. If you do not receive an email within 24 hours of enrolling, email us at [email protected].
When you successfully complete all the quizzes, please email us and we will send you an electronic Statement of Participation.
We will send information about your course to you via email. When you enrol, ensure that your email address is correct.

This course can be funded using your NDIS plan. Learning Auslan must be connected to the disability listed in your NDIS plan. Your NDIS plan should state a goal of learning Auslan or improving communication.

The NDIS line item number this will be charged against is 03_089_0121_1_1. Cost $165.45 GST exempt.
There is no age limitation on accessing this online course.
We offer two beginner levels to start you on your Auslan journey.
Introduction to Auslan 1 (ITA1)
This class is the perfect starting point if you have no previous experience with Auslan. You will learn the basic skills needed to have simple, everyday conversations with Deaf people.
Introduction to Auslan 2 (ITA2)
This course is designed to build on what you learned in the first class. You will explore more detailed grammar and learn more about the culture of the Deaf community, helping you to have more meaningful conversations.
Certificate in Auslan II
After completing ITA2, many students choose to continue their journey with a Certificate in Auslan — an accredited qualification that opens the door to professional Auslan use and interpreting pathways.
What is the difference between Sign Online and the other online courses at Deaf Connect?
Sign online is our self-paced online course. It is a set course that can be purchased and studied at your own speed, within the 12 weeks it is available to you.
Our Introduction to Auslan 1 (ITA1) classes can be face-to-face or online, and involve attending classes alongside peers. In these classes you are learning from a Deaf tutor in a live environment.
