Deaf Connect has partnered with a number of expert organisations to develop a range of “healthy ageing” video resources for senior Australians who use Auslan to communicate.
These video resources, delivered in Auslan, cover a number of vital topics such as healthy eating, oral health, chronic illness, self-care, aged care rights and personal alarms.
The videos were developed through Ageing Well, Deaf Services and the Deaf Society’s aged care program, in conjunction with a number of partners including the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, Woollongabba Oral Health Clinic, and YouTube star Deaf Chef Ross, and were developed with funding from the Queensland Government.
General Manager, Ageing Well, Dr Leena Vuorinen, these videos are a great resource for Deaf seniors to help them to care for themselves better.
“Over the last six years we have been proud to produce video resources in Auslan on various topics helping Deaf seniors to access important information on healthy, active ageing,” Ms Vuorinen said.
“These latest videos offer a modern resource of practical advice on how to care for yourself and stay active when getting older.”
Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner, Janet Anderson PSM, says these videos highlight a commitment to ensuring inclusiveness in the provision of information and resources for senior Australians receiving aged care.
“The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is pleased to be able to support the development of this resource to help senior Australians who use Auslan to understand their right to be properly looked after, treated well and given high quality care and services,” Ms Anderson said.
