Lisa’s Story I Connecting with community through Support Work

Through accessing Support Work at Deaf Connect, Lisa enjoys social outings, connecting with her community and has learnt how to better use technology and apps that can support communication:

“I was looking for a support worker who was loyal, honest and just committed to providing me with a safe space that I can be me. “

  • Lisa, Support Work Participant

Daily living and social community participation support:

“They’ll take me to social outings, which then improves my mental health generally.”

“They also help me with technology, so using apps to help me communicate… that means I can socialise better.”

“…The hearing support worker initially just took me shopping…it was more just a trial to see if I liked the services.

“The deaf support worker has taken me places like the Vet…and then I went with my deaf support worker down to Melbourne for a holiday and that was in April 2024.”

What services does Lisa use?

“I’ve had two different services that I utilise throughout Deaf Connect. I use their interpreting service to book interpreters, and then I use their Community Access service to get support workers to take me out.”

Deaf Connect offers personalised support, in Auslan, to meet your goals.
