Urgent or After Hours Interpreting

If you need to book an interpreter outside our office hours, you can get in touch with our team through call or SMS. Please note that our interpters are not able to connect you with emergency services such as the poice, fire, or ambulance. If you are in a life-threatening emergency situation you can make a call to emergency services using the National Relay Service (NRS). More info about using the NRS for Emergency Services here.

For urgent bookings outside of office hours, please contact our after-hours service:

How much does an Auslan interpreter cost?

The Auslan interpreter cost depends on the type of booking, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all price. Your Auslan interpreter hourly rate may vary based on:

  • Booking duration.
  • The type of appointment or event.
  • How much notice is provided.
  • Whether interpreting is delivered on-site or online.
  • Any travel requirements where applicable.

There are several funding options that may help cover the cost of interpreting. This includes NDIS funded Auslan Interpreting for eligible NDIS participants accessing interpreting services, employer-funded workplace bookings through the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF), and government-funded services like the National Sign Language Program (NSLP) which provides free interpreting for Deaf Seniors. How much does an Auslan interpreter cost?

The cost of an Auslan interpreter depends on your booking. Factors such as the appointment type, duration, location and whether the service is delivered on-site or online all influence pricing.

Does NDIS cover Auslan interpreting?

Eligible NDIS participants may be able to access Auslan interpreting through their NDIS funding. Employer-funded bookings, government-funded services and other funding arrangements may also be available depending on your circumstances.

Can I book an Auslan interpreter online?

Yes. Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is available across Australia and provides a practical option for many medical, workplace, education and community appointments.

How much notice do you need to book an interpreter?

We recommend booking as early as possible to give us the best chance of securing your preferred interpreter. By booking as early as possible, you also help us to better support Deaf individuals needing access to an Interpreter in an critical situation such as in the Emergency Department. If you need an interpreter urgently, we’ll do our best to accommodate same-day and short-notice requests where possible.

For Service Providers

If you are a service provider, business or medical centre booking interpreters on behalf of an eligible client, you you must register your organisation on the booking platform before contacting Deaf Connect to make an appointment for the first time. 

Once registered, you will receive a booking code. Please quote this each time you book an interpreting or captioning service.
